Overview
Powering The Future of Protected Connection
Marketing visuals for technical pages are often underestimated, yet they're essential for communicating complex technology and building brand credibility.
To support an upcoming product campaign launch between Johnson Controls and Texas Instruments, I designed a header and results panel image showcasing PowerG, Johnson Controls' Sub-1 GHz wireless protocol for secure, long-range communication in smart security systems. The visuals help illustrate how TI's scalable solution expands PowerG's reach across connected devices.

I first created digital sketches outlining the initial visual direction for the JCI webpage graphics, which would be pitched to the requestors.
These included concept ideas for illustrating wireless connectivity, proposed product placement, and a selected stock image to anchor the final composition.

I suggested featuring smart products such as a thermostat, door lock, smoke detector, and motion sensor in the header image to highlight the capabilities of PowerG technology.

I drew beams to visualize product connectivity across different neighborhoods, highlighting how Johnson Controls delivers the PowerG protocol to more locations and emphasizes long-range communication between devices and neighborhoods.

Learnings
This project was definitely the highlight of my internship! It was such a unique project scope that I wasn't familiar with before, and it pushed me to adapt quickly as the scope shifted from three deliverables to a more streamlined direction. It was a valuable learning experience—creating my first digital sketch, figuring out how to draw beams in Photoshop to visualize connectivity, and finding ways to communicate PowerG’s range and capabilities through imagery.
As a designer, I always enjoy learning more about the technical aspects and background of design, so this project especially was eye-opening as it allowed me to better understand the relationship technology has with people, products, and design.
